The Dunk house have been created for a former NBA basketball player based in Los Angeles’s County Manhattan Beach.
Born from the fusion of basketball and architecture, the Dunk House is equiped with a full basketball courtyard totally integrated in the building itself. It’s field is open to the city, in the great tradition of streetball.
The architecture is composed of two simple shifted blocks, one compact towards the street and the other wide open over the garden.
The villa is merging color and materiality together to devellop a contemporary stealth camouflage approach ;
Studio Malka Architecture have created the « L.A.B. », an acronym standing for Los Angeles Blue.
This polarized blue painting interact with the various solar luminosities and automatically adjust it’s color to match the Californian sky’s tones, merging the house with it’s surrounding.
On the backyard, a fully mirored guest house reflects the sunrays on the shaded north facade of the house, generating both the total disappearance of the guest house and the embodyment of the main house via the reflections.
The result is a contextual alliance between the very materiality of the villa it’s surrounding, proactively interacting towards the streets of LA, the beach community, the sun’s latitude and the sky intensity.
